Time Waer move will require adapters for cable TV customers

Time Waer Cable customers soon will no longer be able to directly connect cables to their TV sets or disc players to get service.

The company is expected to begin scrambling analog signals this summer throughout the region, though initial notices have been provided only to customers in 15 service areas.

Time Waer officials made the announcement in a press release Wednesday, saying the move will allow the company to add channels under an entirely digital format until the name TWC Maxx.

“Moving to an all-digital lineup is a significant step in improving the customer experience,” the company said. “Each analog channel takes the space of three to four [high-definition] channels and up to 12 digital networks. This will free up the necessary capacity to offer faster Inteet speeds in the Hudson Valley area, beginning this spring.”

Gary Withey, Time Waer’s area vice president of operations for Albany and Hudson Valley, said the change also is intended to make Inteet speeds “up to six times faster.”

The press release said immediate updates are planned in Hunter, Liberty, Middletown, Monticello, Newburgh, Olive, Port Ewen, Port Jervis, Poughkeepsie, Rhinebeck, Rosendale, Saugerties, Walden, Woodstock and Wurtsboro.

A customer service representative said notices will be sent to other areas, including Kingston, by April.

Time Waer Cable will provide adapters that will descramble the signal free for a year and then charge $3.75 per month for the devices. Customers who have digital cable boxes or Roku streaming devices will not need the adapters.

The customer service representative said cable modem boxes also might need to be updated after the higher Inteet speed upgrades are added to the system.

A leak on the Chinese social media site Weibo suggests that Apple will slightly increase the battery capacity of the iPhone 7 Plus. This will be extremely welcome considering that Apple devices have been somewhat criticized for their paltry battery life in recent years. These leaks suggest that the iPhone 7 Plus will feature a 2,810mAh capacity; slightly larger than the 2,750mAh found in the existing iPhone 6S Plus.

Camera

Aside from the dual-camera feature that will be one of the central improvements in the iPhone 7 generation, it is also expected that other developments will emerge in the photographic capabilities of this phablet. In particular, the aforementioned Kuo suggests that a 2-3x optical zoom function will feature in the iPhone 7 Plus for the first time.

Apple Patents: Stackable Magnetic Adapters Could Be Coming To The MacBook

Apple has been granted a patent that may mean that the MagSafe power connector concept, a mainstay of Apple design for the past ten years that was discontinued with the 12-inch MacBook, may be retuing. The MagSafe power connector allowed adapters to snap in seamlessly with MacBooks, and should anything trip on the cable, pull the plug out with less risk of knocking over the computer.

The patent builds on the Smart Connector idea Apple introduced with the iPad Pro, which allowed the device to connect with the Smart Keyboard. If Apple follows through with the concepts listed in the patent, then multiple stacked connectors could transfer data and power through the Smart Connector port, connected via a magnetic retention force.

The Apple Watch currently charges in a similar fashion, with a magnetic puck. This new patent would essentially mean that several of these pucks could be stacked on top of one another, held magnetically together.

This type of technology would come in useful as Apple strips out ports on their devices in favor of a single USB-C connection .

Apple was granted another patent recently that would allow holographic-like imagery to be projected onto a display, presumably via the aforementioned connector. It would be able to track positionally where multiple users are looking, meaning each user could have a personalized desktop rotating proportionally in 3D.

Alba tablets sold at Argos and Amazon adapters
Amazon has released a voluntary recall of their power adapters sold with the UK Fire 7 tablet and the UK Fire Kids Edition 7 tablet in the UK and Ireland. They state that, in certain cases, when the power adapter is pulled from the wall socket, the adapter assembly may detach and create a risk of electrical shock.

The affected products were manufactured from September 2015. Amazon advise customers to discontinue use of the original power adapter, and are offering to replace the adapters, free of charge.

A product safety notice has also been released by the retailer, Argos, regarding Alba Tablets.

The recall states that there is a possibility that the 3 pin mains adapter could detach when plugged into the mains and pose a risk of electrical shock. The tablet itself can continue to be used safely via the USB cables, however, the recall asks customers to stop using the plug immediately and obtain a replacement 3 pin plug via the Alba website.
